The beautiful area of the West Country has so much to offer the independent walker with its contrasting scenery. Some of our walks encompass the city of Bath, which offers some of the finest architectural sights in Europe with the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and the famous Georgian Royal Crescent. As you leave Bath via the Kennet and Avon canal and travel on into the Mendips you will be pleasantly surprised by the beautiful countryside of the area and the fascinating heritage. We have planned the walks so that you can discover the rolling hills of the Mendips with the tranquil and serene landscape and stone walled villages. Underground the Mendips are honeycombed with caverns carved out of the limestone by the erosive power of the water over millions of years. From the summits of these hills you are able to absorb the spectacular panoramic views towards Exmoor, the South Wales Coast and Salisbury Plain. Travelling onwards the tracks and footpaths will take you over the dramatic limestone cliffs to the coast at Weston-super-Mare, a traditional English seaside resort. Our walks give you the opportunity to discover the magnificient Wiltshire Downs and our English Heritage with the beauty and mystery of such unique places as Avebury together with the conservation village of Lacock and Stourhead, famous for the National Trust house and garden.
The Cotswolds, is an area bounded by Bath, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon and is world famous for the beauty of its towns and villages. In scale this varies from modest cottages to imposing manor houses and impressive churches both large and small. Gently undulating hills and tree lined valleys allow the walker to appreciate and enjoy the distinctive character of this inviting countryside.
Exmoor National Park is the second smallest in England and Wales and you can explore its heather moorland, its steepsided river valleys and magnificent coastline with our walks. On your walks you will have the opportunity to visit Simonsbath, the capital of Exmoor,Countisbury Hill with views across the channel and walk along the banks of the river Barle. We also visit the Lorna Doone Valley made famous by the author R.D.Blackmore.
