Austria - Winter Wonderland
Enjoying the mountains and valleys of Austria is something that everyone with the love of walking can do even in the winter the staggering beauty of the Tyrolean Alps stand tall and majestic under their blanket of snow.The walking tracks in the area are cleared each day for those who prefer to walk in the winter sunshine through the forests and villages. To add a little more interest and fun to this holiday we have included other activities such as snowshoeing, curling and a sleigh ride.
Seefeld is one of the largest and most popular destinations in the Tyrol and has a wealth of easy walks to follow in the winter as well as other Nordic activities.Framed by the Mountain Range of the Karwendel National Park Seefeld is situated on a sunny high-altitude plateau 1,200 met above sea-level and is 150km from Munich and Innsbruck is 21km away.
You will be staying at the Hotel Bergland, a four star family run hotel situated on the edge of the village of Seefeld near the Wildsee Lake in a beautiful sunny location. The hotel offers classic cuisine and wine cellar,with sun terrace, indoor pool, large sauna and fitness room. There are also internet faclities available.
The weather in January is very pleasant, cold but often with warm winter sunshine.This area of Austria with its breathtaking beauty has ideal walking conditions for our programme.All equipment for the planned activities is included in the price which also includes transport.You will be given an opportunity to experience the wonderful Tyrolean hospitality when visiting the popular mountain Alm Houses for lunch.
The price is based on dinner, bed & breakfast with flights from Gatwick Airport to Innsbruck but regional flights can be arranged at a small additional cost. All activities, equipment and transport is included in the price.
Your Programme
Day 1: Arrive. Transport to your hotel in Seefeld
Day 2: Winter Walk to Scharnitz - Lunch at Scharnitz (6mls/10kms)
Winter Walk to Scharnitz - Lunch at Scharnitz (6mls/10kms) We walk along the beautiful river valley through the tiny villages of Bodenalm and Giessenbach to the village of Scharnitz. Here we can shorten the walk or we can continue along the river valley and over the German border to Mittenwald.
Day 3. AM. Snowshoeing in the Mosern Forest-Light Lunch at the Hotel PM. Curling in Seefeld
On this morning we enjoy the delights of snowshoeing with our instructor. He takes us to find virgin snow in the Mosern forest. We return to our hotel for a light lunch before heading off to the curling rink to challenge each other at this Olympic sport.
Day 4: A free day to enjoy further the area at your leisure.
Day 5: Winter Walk - The Klamm Valley- Lunch at Alm House(6mls/10kms)
We walk through this magnificent valley passing the memorial to St Joseph and then follow a forest track beside the river onto to Gaistalalm. Following a higher route,but easy route back we look down into the beautiful river valley surrounded by snow covered mountains.
Day 6: Snowshoeing at Ropferstubm - Lunch at Alm House.
We spend time with our instructor snowshoeing in the Ropferstubm forest. Ropferstubm,overlooks the Inn Valley and is a delightful area surrounded by snow covered mountains and pine forests.
Day 7: AM. Winter Walk - Seefeld to Reith-Light Lunch at Hotel(6mls/10kms), PM. Sleigh ride through the Seefeld forest
For our last day we take a circular walk to the small village of Reith.We spend time in this pretty village before returning back to Seefeld following the forest tracks and passing through a conservation area. In the afternoon we take a magical sleigh ride through the forest of Seefeld to Wildmoos.
Day 8: Depart.Transport to airport, time to leave or extend your stay
