Canals and Beyond

This holiday is centred on Bath and also visits the surrounding area.Four days of walking that will give you a chance to relax and enjoy the gentle landscape and sleepy villages that lie in the beautiful countryside beyond the historic City of Bath. The walks take you along the Kennet and Avon Canal and you can follow the Bath Skyline with wonderful views over the Georgian city. This holiday takes you to Longleat Estate, the home of Lord Bath. You will not be disappointed with the variety of walks, the beautiful countryside and places of interest you visit.

You will be staying at the Limpley Stoke Hotel a three star,Best Western hotel situated overlooking the Avon Valley, four miles from the City of Bath.

Your Programme

Day 1: Arrive

Day 2: Dundas – Bathampton (E:7mls/11kms)

This circular walk starts at Dundas on the Kennet and Avon Canal and takes us through woodland above the Avon valley to the pretty village of Bathampton. Returning along the canal back to Dundas.

Day 3: Bath Skyline Circular Walk(E:6mls/10kms)

This well-known walk takes you through hidden valleys and woodland with spectacular views of the Georgian City of Bath.You will walk by an Iron Age Hill Fort, Medieval and Roman settlements and 18th century follies.

Day 4: Limpley Stoke–Avoncliffe(E:7mls/11.2kms)

This walk takes us to the village of Freshford, before entering the interesting village of Iford and then walking along a bridleway to Westwood Manor.You then drop down to Avoncliffe and pick up the Kennet and Avon Canal back to Limpley Stoke.

Day 5: Longleat Estate – Shearwater (E:6mls/10kms)

This relatively level walk takes you onto the Longleat Estate of Lord Bath and around the beautiful Shearwater Lake before leaving woodland and crossing pastureland with wonderful views of the Wiltshire Downs and the Deverells.
