Cotswolds-Heritage and Wolds

Nowhere else in England does the work of nature and the work of man appear to be in greater harmony than the Cotswolds, the combination of idyllic stone villages and small towns set amidst gentle rolling countryside is without parallel and quintessentially ‘English’. The holidays in the Cotswolds enable you to explore some of these beautiful villages and small market towns as well as experience the typical rolling wold country. We walk along valleys of many of he meandering streams and rivers of the area and ponder on the beauty of the picturesque villages built out of oolitic limestone, which look warm even on the dullest of days. We walk many of the well-known long distance path such as the Cotswold Way,the Macmillan Way and the Wardens Ways.

You will be staying at the 17th Century Hatherley Manor Hotel at Down Hatherley, Gloucestershire. A three-star hotel set in 37 acres of its own grounds located four miles from Gloucester and 6 miles from Cheltenham. The hotel offers good food and comfort after a day walking in the beautiful Cotswold countryside.

Your Programme

Day 1: Arrive

Day 2: Bourton- on-the-Water -The Slaughters (M:10mls/16kms)

We start at the attractive village of Bourton-on-the-Water and walk to the villages of Upper and Lower Slaughter. Following the Wardens Way to the village of Naunton we then join the Windrush Way back to Bourton-on-the-Water.

Day 3: Winchcombe, Hailes Abbey-Sudeley Castle (M:8.5mls/13.6kms)

Starting at Winchcombe we leave this market town and join the Cotswold Way to visit Hailes Abbey, which is a 13th Century ruined abbey. Our route then takes us past Sudeley Castle, a restored 15th Century manor house, back to Winchcombe.

Day 4: Bishop Norton and the River Severn (M:8.5mls/13.6kms)

This walk from the hotel takes us through the pretty village of Bishop Norton. and up to the triangulation point above the River Severn where we have wonderful views of the Gloucester and the river. We then descend down to the banks of the river and follow the Severn Way back to the hotel.

Day 5: Stanton,Stanway and Snowshill (M:8mls/12kms)

From Stanton, known as the most picturesque village in the Cotswolds,we follow the Cotswold Way to the village of Stanway.The onward route then takes us through woodland to another famous village of Snowshill. From Snowshill we continue along tracks with wonderful views of the Vale of Evesham before returning to Stanton.

Day 6: Depart
