Bath and the Cotswolds
A short break walking holiday centred on the Georgian city of Bath. This city based walking holiday will give you an opportunity to visit the hidden wonders of the city, the magnificent Bath Abbey, the Roman Baths, the Royal Crescent to name but a few. The Kennet and Avon Canal is one of the most picturesque canals in the country and the towpath provides a tranquil setting for walkers.
You will be centre based, staying at 'Highways House' a fine Victorian residence which is only a short walk from the Centre of Bath is set in its own gardens overlooking the city and its surrounding hills.The elegant bedrooms are individually and tastefully decorated and all have en-suite facilities. In the evening you will have an opportunity to visit any of the excellent eating places of your choice, for which Bath is renowned.
Your Programme
Day 1: Arrive
Day 2: A Golden City Walk
This day enables you to explore the Georgian City of Bath and its hidden wonders. A self guided or a free-guided walking tour of the city will enable you will discover its unique heritage. You may wish to discover the Roman Baths or visit the new Thermae Bath Spa.
Day 3:Monkton Combe - Bath (E:6mls/9kms)
You start your day by taking public transport to Monkton Combe where you join the Somerset Coal Canal and walk along to the Dundas Aqueduct. Continue along the towpath of the Kennet and Avon Canal to the village of Claverton and onto the National Trust parkland of Bushey Norwood. Head towards Bathampton Woods and then follow the beautiful hillside walk with wonderful views of Bath before rejoining the canal back to Bath Abbey.
Day 4: Bath Cotswold Walk (E:6mls/9kms)
Start this walk by catching public transport to Bitton. The walk takes you through tranquil countryside and onto the picturesque villages of Upton Cheyney and North Stoke and joins the Cotswold Way, which takes you back to the city. Following the Cotswold Way provides you with many views of the Avon valley.
