Historic Mendips
The Mendips is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Somerset which stretches from the market town of Frome in the East to the Bristol Channel in the West. This area encompasses some of Somerset’s most attractive and varied landscape, from the limestone summits of the Mendip Hills to the pastureland of the Somerset Levels. This area offers the walker a variety of walking country, which still remains to be discovered by many people. The walking holidays in the Mendips give you the opportunity to explore this interesting area visiting such places as Wells, the smallest city in England and mystic Glastonbury with an opportunity to climb the famous Tor.
You will be centre based staying at the Centurion Hotel a three star Best Western hotel with leisure facilities, including a swimming pool and sauna. It is situated 11 miles south from the City of Bath and next to Midsomer Norton.

Your Programme
Day 1: Arrive
Day 2: Glastonbury - The Tor (E:6Mls/10kms)
An opportunity to visit the world famous market town of Glastonbury and follow a circular walk out onto the Somerset Levels. The Tor stands out just begging to be climbed but before you reach it we also walk to Wearyall Hill, which Joseph of Arimathea visited, when he founded the first Christian church here in AD60.
Day 3: Nettlebridge –Stoke Bottom (E:6.5mls/10.4kms)
You start this walk at the village of Nettlebridge which sits on the ancient Roman road known as the Fosse Way. The route follows a wooded stream to the ruins of Stoke House and papermill and then takes you through a disused limestone quarry to see the remains of the Somerset Dorset Canal before returning back across meadows.
Day 4: Stockhill - Priddy (E: 6mls/10kms)
This walk starts at a nature reserve on the Mendips and takes you through the Priddy Mineries. The route continues along Dursdon Drove and joins the footpath ‘The West Mendip Way’ to the highest village on the Mendips, Priddy. On leaving the village the route continues over pastureland and back to Stockhill.
Day 5: Wells - Croscomb -Dinder (E:7.5mls/12kms)
From the Bishop’s Palace you walk to Kings Castle Wood and then join the East Mendip Way, with wonderful views of the Somerset Levels and Glastonbury, to the village of Croscombe. Leaving Croscombe you make your way over pastureland and follow the River Sheppey to the pretty village of Dinder and onward back to Wells.
