Wells and the Mendips
A short Break walking holidays centred on the smallest City in England, Wells. Commence your holiday any day you like subject to availability of accommodation. Wells provides a perfect centre to explore the beauty and richness of the unspoilt Somerset countryside and villages with the Mendip Hills to the North and the broad wetlands to the South. The magnificent Gothic Cathedral and Cathedral Green is the centrepiece of this busy market town. It is a place to relax and enjoy the wealth of the surrounding countryside. You will have an opportunity to visit some of the famous heritage sites of the Mendips as well as enjoy the tranquillity of the surrounding area.
You will be centre based in Wells staying at Cadgwith House a highly recommended four diamond bed and breakfast accommodation.

Your Programme
Day 1: Arrive at Wells.Visit England's smallest City, outstanding for the beauty of its setting, and for its extraordinary heritage of historic buildings, water features and gardens.
Day
2: Wells - Wookey Hole (7mls/11kms)
You will leave Wells and make your way into the
peaceful countryside and climb gently to the open heights of the Mendips.
The walk takes you into the beautiful National Trust Ebbor Gorge Nature Reserve,
with one of the best vantage points in Somerset. You move onwards towards
the pretty village of Wookey and the famous Wookey Hole Caves. The route returns
back to Wells through pleasant woodland.
Day 3: Glastonbury (6mls/10kms)
This day will take you to the internationally known historic town of Glastonbury situated at the heart of The Somerset Levels. Glastonbury is connected with the history of Christianity, as well as with the legend of King Arthur, who along with his wife Guinevere, is reputed to be buried in the majestic Abbey grounds. The Tor forms a striking local land mark and view point just begging to be climbed, the views from the top are just magnificent.
Day 4: Wells - North Wootton (7.5mls/12km)
Starting from Wells this walk takes you through
the Vale of Avalon and along the Somerset Levels. You ascend the flat-topped
hill of Worminster Down and continue onwards through woodland before entering
the quiet and pleasant village of North Wootton. This village is listed in
the Doomsday Book when it belonged to Glastonbury Abbey and for much of its
history it has been known for its wine production. After leaving the village
you will walk through the vineyards and continue onward through pleasant woodland
and the pretty village of Dulcote and back to the City of Wells.
